Cool News of the Day points toward this amazing Ikea Hacker blog. It presents projects by a group of people that don't go to Ikea to buy furniture and then assemble it according to the instructions. They see Ikea as a source for raw material for other projects. CD holders become towel racks, a lampshade becomes a small object photography, a lighted shelf becomes a light table, every object holds possibility.
I found this inspiring. So much of what we buy is mass produced and ugly, but maybe that's because we see it as a finished project. What if we looked at everything we bought as a supply in a larger project. It's only crap if we don't realize its potential.
Even better, most of these are recycled from discarded Ikea stuff.
Even if they decide what they sell you, you decide how you use it.
What if you could see everything in the world as raw material?
